If you haven’t heard of the Pit pups and their story by now, you’re one of the few, as there have been millions of views of the video Stevoni recorded and uploaded to YouTube of her foster dog Grayce taking pups in her mouth, and bringing them to her one by one after they were born. You can also see the uncut version of that video on our Facebook Page, Don’t Poke The Bear 3.0. Stevoni was gracious enough to allow Clark that posting privilege, as it was through his Don’t Poke The Bear Fan Group that Stevoni’s recent brush with fame began. She posted the following picture in the group, explaining that it was one of her pregnant foster dogs but thought she had posted it on her personal timeline, apologized and said that she would remove it. This was on January 7th, and the birth was still a few weeks away.
Clark told her to leave it and to keep the group updated, as his love for animals was one of the main reasons he started the page and group, so naturally, there are many other animal lovers in the group as well that would be interested. She did, and as recent events show, there are a lot of people interested in not only the story of these particular pups and their mother, but in the whole process of rescue, fostering and the adoption of abandoned dogs.
Stevoni continued posting pics as Grayce’s time grew nearer and kept the group of over 36,000 updated regularly with pictures and posts.
You can see as the time grew nearer how her milk had started to come in and enlarge her to the point of bursting, but Stevoni kept her rubbed down with udder cream to help prevent the cracking that had begun on her nipples. So much love and attention being given, surely played a part in Grayce’s instinct to present her with each newborn pup.
The pit bull breed has gained a sordid and not totally deserved reputation for being vicious and unpredictable, mainly due to improper or lack of training and in many cases neglect. The person Grayce was rescued from wanted her for nothing more than a money machine, pumping out litter after litter of pups. You can see by these following pictures how “mean” this particular pit is.
Stevoni sacrificed a sleeping bag and placed it in the plastic tub she has in her birthing room when Grayce showed that it was something she preferred to be comfortable on, and stayed beside her throughout the day supporting her through the entire birth.
Grayce delivered 11 puppies before her ordeal was through and delivered a boy as her first, with ten others to follow.
Doesn’t she look awfully proud? Don’t they both? Whatever instinct it was that drove Grayce to take each of her pups to Stevoni is something we’ll probably never know, and Stevoni says that she has never had another animal do the same thing and is as bewildered and amazed by Grayce’s actions as are all who watched the video of the process I’m sure.
Grayce has already been adopted so will be leaving Stevoni’s care soon and the puppies should have no trouble finding homes with the media attention they’ve received, but that’s not where Stevoni’s story ends and it’s certainly not where it began.
This lovely lady has led quite an interesting life and that path is partly what led her to the work she now does with these animals. It was also the story I started to tell when I sat down to write, but I decided I wanted her story separate from that of the viral video and focused on this amazing woman so I’ll be writing that next. Also, we have invited her to become a part of Don’t Poke The Bear and she has accepted, so you’ll be seeing stories by Stevoni soon of her many exploits involved in her work with rescue animals, and there are a few other surprises she has up her sleeve, so stay tuned!
And don’t forget! You can always donate to any of the fine organizations that are involved in this work. Rescue Rovers is who Stevoni works with. You can check out their website by clicking the following link- RESCUE ROVERS
